Having mentioned it in the Sunderland to London blog I just had to find the old BBC London to Brighton in 4 minutes film, so here it is in all its black and white glory:

This was filmed in 1953 and just look how much railway there is about in contrast to the leaner look of the Sunderland to London film.
For a real contrast, check this 1983 version where the BBC revisit the run and show both 1953 and 1983 journeys side by side in split screen. At moments like this the BBC are the finest programme makers in the world for me.
Wonderful memories. I lived near Coulsdon for a while as a small boy and the odd trip to Brighton was a real treat.
