This journey was a relatively short one, just over one hundred miles there and back. I had to be up near Waterloo station for a meeting and so decided to drive over to Basingstoke and catch the train in and out from there. That gave me two benefits; firstly it was cheaper and secondly I could avoid the risk of problems on the Circle Line if I went via Paddington.
When I do the Basingstoke station run (probably about 5 times a year) I tend to come home via the pretty route to Newbury, but this time I elected to use the quicker, M4/A33 route both there and back.
The outbound drive reflects the traffic, especially between junctions 12 and 11 of the M4. As always, the average speed if for the journey and not between waypoints.
